Terri Zuniga, Santa Maria City Council

Party/Affiliation: Democrat
Current Job: Supervisor Victim Witness Program/District Attorney's Office

Top 3 Priorities if Elected:

INCREASE PUBLIC SAFETY FOR FAMILIES, YOUTH, AND SENIORS

WORK TO CREATE GOOD PAYING JOBS, ECONOMIC STABILITY, AND SOUND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

WORK TO ASSURE EVERYONE'S VOICE IS HEARD

My three top priorities are closely linked and when implemented together as part of a comprehensive plan/vision will help us to address many of the concerns we have as a community while building on our strengths, our rich history and diverse culture.

It is imperative that we increase funding for first responders to assure that we have adequate staffing levels, facilities, and equipment to meet the needs of our growing community.  I will review the current city budget to determine if there are monies available that could be reallocated to police and fire.  Additionally I will explore opportunities for outside funding sources i.e. grants.

We must assure a community where all are safe if we want to attract new business and development.  Neither business nor development will see a city that is not safe, whose schools are overcrowded, and whose infrastructure is not stable as a viable community for them. In attracting new business, creating a development plan, and meeting the diverse needs of our community we need to first identify "who we are and who we want to become".  It is important that everyone have a voice in creating the vision, the goals, and the strategic plan on how we get there.  Only then will we have the knowledge, tools, and roadmap to reach out to business and development that will meet our goals.

As I stated my three priorities are closely liked; increasing safety, identifying the business and development that we want to attract, and inclusion for all in creating a brighter, better vision for Santa Maria.
