San Luis Obispo, September 28, 2012 – The French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) Foundation is proud to announce that more than $143,000 was raised during its annual fundraising "Celebration of Caring" Gala held August 25, 2012. The funds raised support new facilities and advanced technology to benefit patients at FHMC. Of the total amount raised, $19,300 will go directly to the "Save a Heart" Fund, established to promote heart disease education, prevention, risk assessment and free testing for women.
The FHMC Foundation presented the 2012 Louis Tedone, M.D. Humanitarian Award to Jim Sargen for his extensive volunteer and charitable efforts. Jim has demonstrated remarkable commitment to improving the quality of life in our community in such areas as the arts, education and health care. His ongoing dedication to community service and volunteering has earned him numerous recognitions over the years, including Philanthropist of the Year from the Central Coast Community Impact Awards and Network of California Colleges. The award was sponsored by last year's recipients, Frank and Betsey Kelton.
Held at the San Luis Jet Center, the theme of this year's Gala was "Jetting to Rio" The sold out event included entertainment, a live and silent auction, and a gourmet dinner by Two Cooks Catering. Premiere wines from San Luis Obispo County were prominently featured in a special wine cellar auction and a ‘Pick a Card' 52 wine bottle raffle. There were many generous sponsors who supported the Gala including the Event Sponsor, Blue Larkspur Motors, and the French Hospital Medical Staff.
The Foundation Gala has become an annual tradition since its establishment in 2006. Funds raised from the Gala have provided the opportunity to recognize community leaders and support special health care services. Over the past seven years, the FHMC Foundation has raised more than $873,000 from the annual Gala.
