5 Vegetation Fires in SLO, Investigators say Could be Arson

Posted: Updated:

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- Multiple vegetation fires were ignited last night, near Orcutt Road. San Luis Obispo City Fire Department said after investigating the scene there were no heat sources, such as electrical wires that could have ignited these seemingly vegetation fires. "Because the number of fires that were there simultaneously, the lack of any natural or accidental heat resources, leads us to believe these fires were intentionally set," said Fire Marshal Rodger Maggio.

With temperatures nearing triple digits, had these fires been ignited during the middle of the day, things could have been a lot worse. "You would have had more active fire behavior, a lot greater flame length, more fire spread," said Maggio.

The investigation is ongoing. SLO Fire Department is asking anyone with information on how the fire got started to contact Fire Marshal Rodger Maggio at 781-7386.
