Santa Maria Man Charged with Violent Carjacking

SANTA MARIA - Santa Maria Police say they have arrested an 18 year old man and charged with vehicle theft, carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon.

According to SMPD, on October 3, 2012 officers responded to the report of a vehicle being taken by force in the 1200 Block of N. Benwiley.

Officers found the victim of the carjacking had been attacked by a group of Hispanic males one of witch was armed with a baseball bat.  

A short time later a Santa Maria Police Officer was traveling in the area of Alvin and Railroad when he witnessed a vehicle "crash" into the curb line of the roadway causing moderate damage to the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was immediately taken into custody by officers when they realized the vehicle was stolen.

'The driver of the vehicle was identified as David Ledesma 18 years old of Santa Maria.  

Ledesma was booked at the Santa Barbara County Sheriff sub station for 10851 V.C.(vehicle theft), 245 P.C.(assault with a deadly weapon), 215 P.C.(Carjacking) and 23152 ( DUI) V. C.
