SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The California State University Board of Trustees have announced that Timothy P. White, chancellor of the University of California, Riverside, as the next chancellor to lead the CSU system.
In a memo sent out Thursday, the Board said, "Tim has served as UCR chancellor since 2008 and under his leadership, the campus has grown to almost 21,000 students and is consistently rated highly among universities across the country. His background and experience reflect the institutional values and mission of the CSU, and his demonstrated leadership and focus on student success are the right combination for the CSU's future.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he immigrated to Northern California with his family, and was a first generation college student. Tim attended all three segments of California's higher education system. Beginning at Diablo Valley Community College, he earned a bachelor's degree from Fresno State, a master's degree from Cal State Hayward (East Bay), and a Ph.D. at UC Berkeley. He and his wife Karen, who is an assistant clinical professor for the UC Riverside Biomedical Sciences program, have four sons.
It is anticipated that Dr. White will start in his new position at the end of December.
