New Job in SLO the Public Can Vote for

Posted: Updated:

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- A new job is coming to San Luis Obispo and the public gets a vote. The running for this job is somewhat of a contest, in fact the applicant needs to create a video showing off why he or she should be picked to be the face for SLO.

Were you born to be famous? That's what the city of San Luis Obispo's Tourism Business Improvement District hopes to find out. "We want them to be at everything, we want them to be known, we want them to kind of become a local celebrity," said Lindsey Miller, from SLO Chamber of Commerce. This person will go everywhere promoting SLO, places like mission plaza and wineries.

One of the most important things is to be able to utilize social media. "This one person will be able to create a following that shares SLO and creates such a fan base that it will market San Luis in a whole new way," said Miller.  Here is the cool part, the public gets to help pick the ambassador.

"I would look for somebody that is outgoing, someone active, and supports the local community," said Taryn Green, a community member.  "Someone really friendly and innovative," said Taryn Jamison, a community member.

The job pays 50-thousand for a year, and the money isn't coming from the general fund. It is paid for with tourism marketing dollars.
