CALIFORNIA, USA - Gas prices are climbing across California, and that's forcing gas stations to close.
Prices at the pump jumped forty cents from last Friday.
Refinery problems have created shortages, which sent wholesale prices soaring so some gas stations are shutting down because the price is too steep.
Triple-A spokesperson Marie Montgomery says, "We have never seen a spike like this. This is brand new territory. We just don't know how quickly they'll get the supplies back on line that we need."
Analysts say the up-tick is troublesome but is temporary.
They say drivers in California should see prices drop by Thanksgiving.
Analysts say disruptions in refineries are causing the gas shortage. The disruptions include fires and power failures, as well as a pipeline shutdown in California.
All of those reduced the flow of gasoline and caused supply and demand to go in to overdrive.
