Current Job: Marina City Councilman/Attorney at Law
Top 3 Priorities if Elected:
A BALANCED BUDGET THAT DOES NOT REDUCE CORE SERVICES
My approach is to work with the council members, city staff, residents, existing businesses and developers to increase the revenue while reducing discretionary spending. This involves reassessing the city procedures for bringing new businesses into the city, and modifying the business signage policy so that existing businesses can make the public aware of their location and product. We need to work with the developers to reduce their development fees and lessen the burden on them when projects are proposed to the city staff. As a member of the FORA Board I have strongly supported a reduction in the development fees from $46,000.00 to $33,700.00.
We need to continue to promote citizen involvement in our recreation programs while expanding the participation of the school administrations in city affairs. The input from the adult residents and youth will only bring a stronger relationship between the city's public safety and the families residing in Marina.
WELL PLANNED DEVELOPMENT OF FORMER FORT ORD PROPERTY THAT IS WITHIN THE JURISDICTIONAL BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY
As one of the city's representatives to the FORA Board I have actively pursued a relationship with existing and potential developers of Marina's real property. I have sought a senior development project that not only provides all that will be necessary for our senior citizens, but also provides a range of home prices that are within the average Marina senior citizen's financial capabilities. There are many projects on the former Fort Ord property that have been developed in Marina (MPC, CHOMP Wellness Center, Carpenters' Union Hall) and many more to come ( V.A. Clinic, Cinemax Theater, retail stores and mixed use development). These will require a full understanding of the city's needs and desires. It will also require a full understanding of the legal significance of the agreements that are to be entered into by the city. I know the city has benefited from my efforts and will continue to do so.
