GOLETA, Calif. -- A party turns into a shooting involving Sheriff's deputies and a gunman. Shots were fired, and the suspect is now in critical condition. This marks the 8th officer involved shooting in Santa Barbara County this year.
A quiet neighborhood near Andrita Street was turned upside down.
"All hell broke loose," says neighbor Doug Williams.
"Guys running up and down the street fighting and next thing I knew somebody pulled out a gun and started firing shots and everybody scattered."
911 was called and deputies conducting a traffic stop nearby got there in time to hear the shots.
"When deputies arrived they confronted a male subject who was armed with a gun," says Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Mark Williams.
"There was a confrontation shots were fired and the subject was hit several times."
Sheriff's deputies conducted a search of the area with support from County Air and SWAT.
Now, investigators are interviewing neighbors to piece together what happened
"From what they were shouting it was a gang type incident. They were shouting 'Rock Creek' which is a local gang from another neighborhood," says Doug Williams.
"We don't have that kind of trouble in this neighborhood at all."
Now, Doug is coming to terms with the fact that this event has now changed that.
