Santa Maria -- You have a chance to let transit officials know what you think about the Santa Maria Area Transit System. The Transit Division is holding a meeting tonight on unmet transit needs. People who attend tonight can let the city know where they want to see an expansion of bus service. The transit service has been operating for about 34-years. The new bus center opened last year approximately. 100,000 riders use the Santa Maria Area Transit or SMAT buses each month.
SMAT is already working on expanding service. Some riders have complained about buses running late on Broadway in Santa Maria and others would like to see service expanded to Orcutt. The transit division ordered new buses that will arrive in 2 years. Some will replace older buses in the fleet as well as 3 additional buses to expand service. The public meeting on unmet transit needs is tonight at the Santa Public Library in Shepard hall from 5:30 - 7 PM.
