Guadalupe Council Delays Hearing on DJ Farms Development

Posted: Updated:

GUADALUPE - DJ Farms is a massive housing and commercial development project that will dramatically increase the size of the tiny city of Guadalupe.

The current project plan calls for just over 800 single family homes on more than 200 acres on the southeast corner of Highways One and 166.

It also includes a large commercial development and room for a new school.

DJ Farms has been before the City of Guadalupe in one form or another since 1994.

The current owner of the land tells Central Coast News the current project, which has been downsized over the years, is now economically feasible and supported by city leaders.

A planned public hearing on the project at Tuesday night's City Council meeting has been delayed for at least two weeks.

The project developer says he needs more time to prepare information for the Mayor and the City Council on a deal to remodel and restore the historic Guadalupe City Hall complex, including the police and the fire stations, as part of an overall DJ Farms agreement.

Mayor Lupe Alvarez estimates it could cost nearly $2 million to complete the City Hall renovation, with the money coming from a portion of each home sold at the DJ Farms project site.

The project developer tells Central Coast News he's confident the remaining details can be resolved and the City Council giving a final stamp of approval to the DJ Farms project by the end of the month.

Even so, the developer says breaking ground on the massive project is still at least one year away.

Another public hearing on the final details of the DJ Farms project is expected to be scheduled before the City Council soon.
