City Council Votes to Ban Mobile Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Posted: Updated:

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif.- Arroyo Grande City Council has voted to ban mobile medical marijuana dispensaries in the city. The decision comes as a shock for many residents who attended Tuesday night's city council meeting.

"If anything they should be scared now that somebody is going to fight this ban on them and just like what everybody has been saying they just started a lot of trouble," says Lynn Lake, an Arroyo Grande resident.

Lynn Lake is just one of seven people who spoke at the meeting. Lake and others are in shock after hearing the council voted 5-0 to ban mobile medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.

"Why Ag? I would really like to know more why they say no, is it just because of the federal law? That's not good enough for me," says Lake.

Last week, the council voted 4-1 with Councilwoman Caren Ray voting against the ban and some say they think Tuesday's decision may have been rigged.

"It seems to be that they have made an arrangement before this ever got up to the board," says Richard Donald, an Arroyo Grande resident.

Mayor Tony Ferrara says the decision is a response to the county's grand jury report that was released back in June stating the county was inconsistent with its medical marijuana laws allowing more pot shops to open.

"It's a ministerial action that we're going to be taking to close a loophole in already an existing ordinance and the motivation behind it is simply to a response we received from the grand jury," says Mayor Tony Ferrrara, City of Arroyo Grande.

Other people in the community are siding with the council. One resident who didn't want to release her name says, "I'm against unregulated marijuana because so many teenagers in our community have medical marijuana cards and they are able to get the marijuana and they are perfectly healthy."

Other people who spoke at the meeting say they are dependant on medical marijuana not only to survive physically but financially because many work for delivery services.
