Toyota Vehicle Recall Due to Faulty Window Switch

Posted: Updated:

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Toyota is recalling over 7 million vehicles world wide due to a faulty power window switch that could be a fire hazard. About 2.5 million vehicles in the U.S. are affected by the recall, which affects a variety of Toyota models.

The Toyota Yaris and Corolla are most affected by what is being called a "sticky" window switch that prompted the recall. Models from 2007-2009 were most affected.

A Toyota Services Manager, Robert Jones, says the problem was "some grease that hasn't been applied properly that we're going to go in and redo."

The driver's side is where the "sticky" switch is. Toyota dealerships are still getting information on how to fix the problem.

"We know a little of what's going on. We're going to do some product training next week. We should have a fix and start repairing the vehicles within the middle of the month".

Toyota has said that the repair to the problem is relatively minor and should be a 40 minute fix. Only 1% of the cars will need the switch to be fully replaced.

But for one Toyota driver, a small problem is still a concern.

"I would ask them why do you release these vehicles if they aren't safe on the road?"

Toyota owners who have a model that needs a fix will be notified by the company, says Jones.

"They should be receiving some information via mail. If their vehicle is affected, they go by the VIN number of the car. And they'll contact the owners of the car."

Toyota is aiming for October 22nd as the date when people can take their cars in to fix the problem. He also said owners of a recalled vehicle can go in before the 22nd to have their car inspected and see if there is any immediate danger.
