CINCINNATI – The San Francisco
Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 to win the National League Divisional
Series in the decisive Game 5. With the win, the Giants become the first time
in Major League Baseball history to win a best-of-five playoff series with
three straight road victories following two straight home losses.
Buster Posey led the Giants with
a grand slam in the 6th inning. The homer marked just the third
grand slam by a catcher in postseason history. The Giants scored all six of
their runs in the 6th inning and had to hold off a Cincinnati rally
that saw the Reds put the tying runs at the plate in each of the last four
innings. The Reds had the tying runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning, when Sergio Romo struck out Scott Rolen to end the game.
The victory propels the Giants
into the National League Championship Series, where they will face either the
St. Louis Cardinals or Washington Nationals.
