DANVILLE, KY - Vice President Joe Biden and Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Paul Ryan may have greeted each other warmly when they first started their debate, but it didn't take long for sparks to fly.
Both candidates appeared engaged while speaking and listening to each other. Vice President Biden often smiled or laughed when Ryan was speaking. One of the biggest squabbles was over entitlement programs.
Ryan commented that his family has been helped by Medicare and Social Security, saying they need to save it.
But Biden quickly fired back, saying ,"You are jeopardizing the program, you are changing the program from a guaranteed benefit to premium support, whatever you call. The bottom line is people are going to have to pay more out of their pocket."
The two nominees also squared off on one of the biggest hot button issues, the economy.
"They're holding hostage the middle class tax cut to the super wealthy," said Biden. But Ryan said there is too much government spending.
"There aren't enough rich people and small businesses to tax to pay for all their spending."
Ryan's next campaign stop is in Ohio and Biden is scheduled to speak in Ryan's home state of Wisconsin.
