SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's latest analysis of the faults near Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant found the plants design has continually shown its ability to withstand earthquakes near the site.
PG&E first notified the NRC in November 2008 about the Shoreline fault. PG&E provided updated information in 2011 and a team of NRC staff visited the site in October. The team analyzed ground motion from earthquakes the Shoreline fault could potentially generate.
In a information request from the NRC to all U.S. nuclear power plants it stated that Diablo Canyon must still carry out additional earthquake evaluations.
