POMPANO BEACH, FL. - A man got quite a surprise when he found a giant eyeball on a Florida Beach on Wednesday.

Gino Cavacci made the surprising discovery on Pompano Beach, north of Ft. Lauderdale.

"It was round in the sand," said Cavacci.  "I just gave him a kick and it looked at me and I said "wait a minute!  This is an eyeball!""

State wildlife officials are trying to determine the source of the softball-sized eyeball.  So far, they haven't determined the species it belongs to, but just based off of speculation, they believe it could be from a giant squid, whale, or some other kind of large fish.

Officials have placed the eye on ice and will analyze it at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida.
