SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The California Department of Education has announced it will be destroying the peanut butter from Sunland, Inc., which was recalled by the federal government earlier this month.
Peanut butter from Sunland, Inc. is believed to have been contaminated with Salmonella.
The peanut butter was purchased by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the National School Lunch and Commodity Supplemental Food Programs. More than 2,000 cases of Sunland, Inc. peanut butter was sent to 320 school districts throughout the state, and more than 23,000 cases were shipped to six California food banks.
Agencies were advised today to take an inventory of all of the peanut butter and destroy it.
