SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Following its sixth consecutive win to start the 2012 season, the Cal Poly football team has once again jumped up in both national Football Championship Subdivision rankings.
In the FCS Coaches Poll, the Mustangs have moved up two places and are now ranked Number 12. In the Sports Network poll, the Mustangs moved up just one spot to number Number 14, but did receive three first place votes. Both rankings are the highest positions for the team in both polls this season.
Cal Poly is coming off a 56-28 victory over Northern Colorado, which improved the team's record to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big Sky Conference. The 6-0 record is the best start for the team since the 2004 season. The Mustangs will look to continue their undefeated season going when the team hosts Portland State on Saturday, October 20th at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:05pm.
Moving to the top of the both FCS rankings are the Eastern Washington Eagles. The Eagles jumped up five places in both polls from Number 6 to Number 1 following it's 27-24 victory over then-Number 2 Montana State. Like the Eagles and Mustangs, the Bobcats are also members of the Big Sky Conference. In all, the new conference home of the Mustangs has four teams ranked in the Top 25. Montana State is ranked fifth in both polls, while Northern Arizona is ranked Number 15 in the Coaches poll and Number 16 in The Sports Network poll. The Mustangs will play Eastern Washington in a designated non-conference game in Cheney, Washington on Saturday, November 3rd. The Mustangs will also face Northern Arizona to close out the regular season on Saturday, November 17th.
