SANTA MARIA, Calif. - For many people, this time of year brings new opportunity for some work in the form of seasonal jobs during the holiday season.
Central Coast News spoke with several department stores in the area. With Christmas only 2 months away most have already started hiring seasonal employees
In Santa Maria several stores said they are preparing to hire seasonal employees, including the Best Buy, Tilly's, and TJ Maxx stores which said will hire seasonal employees in the next month.
Kohls is also hiring more seasonal employees this year than they did last year.
Marylou Bell, the branch manager of a Santa Maria business that helps the unemployed find jobs, says that seasonal jobs are more sought after than ever before.
"This is a big time of the year when people are wanting to even pick up a second job sometimes. They say sometimes they need something on the weekends or nights. Even if they have a full-time job."
The Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce says the trend in the past few years for businesses has been to hire seasonal employees earlier than just a few weeks before Christmas.
