LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- People in Southern California are saying no to fracking, an oil extraction method linked to groundwater pollution and some say even earthquakes.
The heated debate that went late into the night stems from a study paid for by PXP, the owner of the oil field in Inglewood. The study found fracking, or high pressure hydraulic fracturing doesn't have any affect on the environment.
Now critics are saying there hasn't been enough testing done. People in the community are most concerned about the risks because the study was paid for by PXP with no outside peer review.
Fracking is a method that blasts millions of gallons of water, sand, and chemicals deep underground to stimulate the flow of oil and gas. One of the main concerns is the high pressure could contaminate the water table and potentially create earthquakes
