SANTA MARIA, Calif - Normally, we're used to seeing our teachers in the classroom behind their desk. But this week, Santa Maria students get to see their teachers behind the counter.
Staff members from the Santa Maria-Bonita School District are taking your orders at McDonalds this week as part of a fundraiser to raise money for schools. But some say it's even more than that.
"It helps financially because it's a fundraiser for us and we get a certain percentage of what's raised," said Jim Benedict, a third grade teacher from Liberty Elementary School. "It also helps because the kids and families get the chance to see us outside of school, and we see them outside of school. It's not always studying and at your desk."
The event will continue this Thursday. Principal Ann Orton from El Camino Middle School will be at the Broadway/Fesler McDonalds location from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Principal Margaret Ontiveros from Ontiveros Elementary School will be at the 2408 Broadway location from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
McDonalds is donating 20 percent of the sales made during these time periods back into the school district.
