Dave King, Buellton City Council

Party/Affiliation:Republican
Current Job: Retired CHP Officer

Top 3 Priorities if Elected:

1- Prevent wasteful spending
2- Managed development
3-Public information

How do you plan to implement these priorities (please feel free to use the extra page given):

Eliminate more wasteful spending-Over the past several years I have helped eliminate hundreds of thousands of dollars in unnecessary spending.  Each time we are given a monthly total of expenditures, I carefully look at each item to see if there is a way to save tax dollars.  Sometimes we cannot cut spending on a line item, and sometimes we can make significant changes.  If re-elected, I will continue to keep a careful eye on the city's finances.

Managed Development- There has been some talk of "economic development," and "economic sustainability," from some fringe groups in Buellton.  What I believe "development" and "sustainability"  means is, attracting high impact businesses that will turn Buellton into just another big, crowed, crime ridden city.  I believe that we have managed to cut our budget, correctly manage our money, and keep a surplus in the general fund.  We are NOT in a state of desperation where we need to over- crowd and over-build our city to the point you don't even recognize Buellton anymore.  What I  believe in is, managed growth, with the kinds of businesses that meet the needs of Buellton residents and the surrounding valley.  Once you cover the dirt, you can't take it back.  Careful planning is the only reasonable course of action.  Additionally,  I would like to continue to promote safe, fun activities for our kids.  The biggest complaint from my kids is, "there's nothing to do."  So as a civic leader, it's my responsibility to help develop something for our kids to do.

Public information- Recently, we adopted a new policy to include a public information flyer in your water bill.  This flyer will contain information regarding the city's business and direction for the future.  I was enthusiastic about this new policy, because it will keep you informed on issues like road improvements, city projects, new ordinances and more.  Additionally, this will keep you up to date on issues that might come before the City Council.  This will give you the opportunity to attend council meeting and voice your opinion on a variety of issues.  Your participation in the civic process, will help the council know the will of the people they were elected to represent.

Please support me for re-election to the Buellton City Council.
