Ben Romo Appointed as First 5 Executive Director

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif.-- First 5 Chairman Bill Cirone announced that Ben Romo is the new First 5 Santa Barbara County Executive Director. Romo was selected after a nationwide search which included more than 124 candidates who applied for the position.  

The former Executive Director, Pat Wheatley will be working close with Romo as he settles in to his new position. His first official day on the job will be November 26th. Wheatley announced her retirement from the position in March 2012.  

Prior to his new position, Romo served as the Director of Community Education and Special Projects. He worked on organizations and projects such as the Transitional Youth Services for Homeless and Foster Youth, the AmeriCorps Literacy Tutoring Program and Partners in Education.

First 5 in Santa Barbara works with groups throughout the county that support health, early learning and pre-natal care of children up to children five years old and their families.
