Plans Approved To Build Tallest Building In San Francisco

Posted: Updated:

SAN FRANCISCO – Plans to build the tallest building in San Francisco have been given the green light by city planners. If completed, the 1,070 tall "Transbay Tower" at 101 First Street would be 217 taller than the city's current tallest building, the Transamerica Pyramid, which stands 853 feet tall.

The proposed 61 story building is part of an overall larger plan called the Transit Center District that would recreate downtown San Francisco. The 145-acre district would include other high-rise commercial and residential buildings. The project would also include retail space, hotels and well as transit services.

The next step in the project is for the developer to complete a sales agreement with the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, which owns the land. The sales price could be near $200 million.
