Grover Beach House Where Chop Shop Found Has History With the Law

Posted: Updated:

GROVER BEACH, Calif. - New information on the 4 arrests that were made in Grover Beach on Saturday night. Police said the house on Baden Avenue has been a problem for at least a year. This time, when they responded to a fight, it led to the arrests and the discovery of a chop shop operation in the backyard.

Central Coast News didn't get a comment from people living at the house. For a year, Grover Beach Police have become regulars on Baden Avenue.

Commander John Peters of Grover Beach Police says "there have been some drug related arrests at the house previously, as well as warrant arrests and so forth".

What's unusual, and for some people more of a concern, is the Dandy Lion Montessori Preschool that is right next door to the house.

According to Commander Peters, "the city has been working aggressively with the homeowner to correct the behaviors and problems that are occurring at this residence. We're still in the process of doing that and this is just another step in this process."

Typically, if drugs are found within 1,000 feet of a school, law enforcement can add more felony counts to arrests that are made at the home. This particular school doesn't fall under that law. Dandy Lion Preschool told me they had no comment on the recent crimes near their school, but neighbors were happy to speak up.

Roger Barnes has lived on Baden Avenue for 11 years and says "it used to be really quiet. All hours of the day and night, cars coming up and down the street now, people smoking cigarettes. There are parties, fireworks, you name it.

Denise Scoville adds, "a lot of us have started locking up our cars and making sure our houses are locked."

Grover Beach Police said officers have started to make frequent checks of activity at the house because the law doesn't protect the school. Grover Beach Police also said its working with the owners of that house to try and clean it up and fix a lot of the red tags and code violations on the property.
