City Attorney Looking Into Complaint Against Council Candidate

Posted: Updated:

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The San Luis Obispo City Attorney's Office is evaluating a complaint signed by Council candidates Matthew Strzepek and Kevin Rice against Council member John Ashbaugh.

The City Attorney's Office said Mayoral candidates Steve Barasch and Donald Hedrick included their signatures on the complaint Tuesday morning.

The complaint alleges that Ashbaugh violated state and local campaign regulations. Specifically, Government Code Section 8314 for misuse of city email for campaign activities. Also written in the complaint were claims of violating Chapter 2.4 of the city's municipal code for exceeding campaign contribution limits and late filing for campaign disclosures.

The City Attorney's Office says they are continuing to revue and evaluate the allegations. The San Luis Obispo City Attorney will release a statement about the claims and findings on or before November 1st.
