SANTA MARIA, Calif- A historic tear-down has begun at the Santa Maria Town Center Mall, all in order to make room for a new theater.
On Wednesday morning, demolition started on the building once occupied by Gottschalks, a clothing retail chain that folded in the summer of 2009.
Developers say in it's place, a 14 screen entertainment center at the corner of Broadway and Cook Street will be constructed.
Additional parking is also planned to be built in the area.
Earlier this month, a Texas-based real estate investor group announced they had bought the Santa Maria Town Center Mall, vowing to finish various renovations and remodeling plans that have been on the drawing board for years.
