PISMO BEACH, Calif. -- You would think after a deadly shark attack surfers would stay out of the water but the opposite is true.
There were at least seven surfers at Pismo Beach this morning just a day after a fellow surfer was killed by a shark in waters 50 miles south, at Surf Beach in Vandenberg Village.
"No nerves, no worries, no concern about a shark whatsoever," says surfer Brian Wilkinson.
Wilkinson surfs at Pismo Beach at least four days a week and after hearing a shark killed a man, he still can't wait to get into the water.
Authorities say a shark ripped through the torso and surfboard of 39-year-old Francisco Solorio Jr.
"Very sad for his family," says Wilkinson. "But, this kind of thing, we each get on a freeway everyday and we have so many chances of dying on an accident."
Wilkinson does say he takes precautions before hitting the waves. He says he would never surf by himself or enter waters that have lots of kelp or are known to have sharks.
For Brian and other surfers, the call of the waves are stronger than his fear of a shark.
"The chances of getting hit out in the water by a shark," says Wilkinson. "You have more chance of getting hit by lightning...twice!"
