SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. -- The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is planning to increase their staff size as they start to see higher temperatures and more wind blowing in the area.
The department made their announcement on Tuesday. Santa Barbara County has requested extra resources from Cal Fire. Five engines will be available and four hand crews from Ventura County.
Thursday will be the first day of increased staff levels. They will begin with three extra engines, a water tender and leader. The increased staffing will be evaluated daily.
Firefighters are also warning people to be more cautious with such high winds and temperatures coming our way. If anyone sees smoke or signs of a fire, call 911 right away.
Santa Barbara County firefighters also say to use extra caution when operating spark or flame producing machinery.
