Santa
Maria -- A new study finds toxic air at 35 out of 4o early childhood
development centers in California. While the levels are not threatening
prolonged exposure to the toxins, especially for children, can result in
negative physical side effects.
The
California Air Resources Board funded this first of its kind study.
The
research shows nearly 88-percent of the facilities tested have excessive levels
of formaldehyde in the air. Furniture and building materials made from
composite wood products, such as hardwood plywood, particleboard, and other
pressed wood products, are typically the primary indoor sources.
The
analysis was done on facilities in the San Francisco Bay and Monterey coastal
areas.
