SANTA MARIA - Seasonal or temporary employment typically gets going in September and provides badly needed jobs through the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
That's the case in Santa Maria where a former Rite Aid pharmacy has been temporarily transformed into Halloween City.
Everything Halloween is for sale, from costumes and makeup to must have items for a haunted house or Halloween party.
Its one of about 400 Halloween City stores across the country.
The company begins hiring in September and often pays above minimum wage for people with retail experience.
"It depends on the market but we'll hire anywhere from 15 to 20 temporary employees", says Halloween City spokesperson Danny Rose, "sometimes a little bit more depending on the size of the store itself."
In case you're wondering, the hottest selling items at Halloween City this year are movie theme costumes like The Avengers and zombies.
The company does not disclose financial information such as total sales revenue or profit or how much it contributes to the City of Santa Maria's sales tax base.
The store will remain open for a few days after Halloween for a store wide clearance sale where prices are slashed by as much as 50 percent.
