New Nipomo Interchange Expected To Bring More Business To Mesa Area

Posted: Updated:

NIPOMO, Calif. -- Officials have cut the ribbon opening a new interchange in Nipomo at Willow Road.

It's Nipomo Valley's first ever off ramp just opened and residents hopes now traffic from Highway 101 will come to their town.

Businesses hope is a brand new interchange can rev up their economy for the better.

Local businesses have waiting on this for days.

Jim Ploughman owns a scrap metal recycling shop called Chippers right off Willow Road. He says he had a difficult time telling customers how to get to his business in the Mesa area.

But with the new interchange connecting Highway 1 to the US 101, Loughnane says it will be much easier and may even bring in more customers to his shop.

"I think it's about time! It's great that it's going to be so close because we have access with our trucks right down to the freeway now," says Loughnane. "And that bypasses getting into Nipomo and Arroyo Grande."

Loughnane says typically customers would have to go around his business to get to him but now they can get off Willow Road from the freeway directly to his business.

The $20 million dollar project is expected to alleviate traffic and will be open to the public on October 27th.
