Avila Beach and Port St. Luis Closed Because of Sewage Spill

AVILA BEACH, Calif. - San Luis Obispo County Health officials shut down Avila Beach and Port Saint Luis on Friday afternoon because of a sewage spill.

Officials say about 1,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled on to Froom Creek.  It came from a blocked sewer pipe on the 1500 block of Calle Joaquin Road in San Luis Obispo.

City officials reported the spill at 4:30pm on Friday.  Since then, county officials has confirmed the spill has been stopped. 

The beach will be closed until lab results confirm safe bacteria levels.
