LOMPOC, Calif. - Reports of gun shots Saturday night leaves one man dead and police searching for answers in Lompoc. The flame from a candle at the scene is the only thing lighting up the Lompoc neighborhood after police say the victim was a 34-year-old man.
"It scared me, I literally screamed because it was out of nowhere," says Christina Rodriguez, a neighbor.
Neighbors who live behind the alley near Prune Avenue, say they heard four gun shots and when they came outside, they found a body where there are now orange markings. Police say when officers showed up the man was already dead.
"They were trying to resuscitate him, but it didn't work, he died, they covered his face and everything," says Paul Rodriguez, a neighbor.
At this time, police are not releasing the victim's name, but say he was Hispanic and was from the Lompoc area.
Central Coast News asked neighbors if they thought it was gang-related and Christina Rodriguez nodded and said, "hmm, possible. It is Lompoc."
Rodriguez says she lives only a few feet away from where the shooting happened and says this is not the first time she's heard gunshots.
"Actually a couple days we heard some gun shots but we were in the house," says Rodriguez.
At this time, police aren't saying if it was gang-related. The investigation is on-going and anyone with information is asked to contact the Lompoc Police Department at (805) 736-2341.
