Three Arrested After Armed Carjacking in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Two men and a woman are behind bars at the Santa Barbara County Jail after police say two carjacked a vehicle early Monday morning and the third was found in the car with them.

Around 1:30 Monday morning, a victim was sitting in his car when he was approached by 32-year-old Leonardo Julian Agustin and 22-year-old Stephanie Vazquez, both are from Santa Maria. Agustin and Vazquez asked the victim for a ride to the local store, but the victim refused.

That's when police say the suspects waited across the street and then returned to the car, pointing a handgun at the victim, demanded his car and threatened the victim's life. The suspects took the victim's car when he got out and fled.

Just after noon on Monday, the victim saw his vehicle in an alleyway near West Mill and called the Santa Maria Police Department. That's when officers set up a high-risk enforcement stop and arrested the occupants of the vehicle, Agustin and Vazquez, along with 25-year-old Moises Salinas Rios.

Police say they arrested Rios for an outstanding arrest warrant and being under the influence of a dangerous drug.

Police arrested Agustin for carjacking, being a felon in possession of a handgun, criminal threats and parole violation. He was booked without bail.

Vazquez was booked for carjacking, attempted robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle. Her bail is $100,000.
