GOLETA, Calif. - The City of Goleta has been awarded a new traffic safety grant for a new anti-DUI program to save more lives.
The California Office of Traffic Safety Awarded $68,250 to the city to reduce the number of people killed and injured in alcohol or drug-related collisions.
"Obviously we want to remind everyone that it is illegal to drive impaired, and we hope the campaign will remind people that if they plan on drinking, to never get behind the wheel," said Goleta Police Chief Butch Arnoldi. "But if someone does choose to drive impaired, we will arrest them. No warnings. No excuses."
Drivers who get arrested for driving under the influence can expect jail time, license suspension, and insurance increases. They can also expect fines, fees, DUI classes, court probation and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
