SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Starting Tuesday the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors are adopting a resolution proclaiming Santa Barbara as a Purple Heart County to recognize U.S. members of the armed forces and those who were wounded or killed while serving in battle.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart will be accepting the honor. They are a veterans organization that was formed in 1932 for people who have received military decorations.
The Purple Heart is awarded to living members of the military who were wounded in action or killed in action by the enemy. The goal for the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to promote patriotism, support initiatives in favor of military members and advocate to provide services for veterans and their families.
Along with the presentation, the Board will do a presentation of Colors and the Vadenberg Air Force Base will perform the Pledge of Allegiance.
