SB Rape Suspect Identified By DNA Technology

Posted: Updated:

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A man is in jail after his DNA was linked to a rape that happened over a year ago in Santa Barbara.

20-year-old Raul Yescas of Goleta was arrested for allegedly raping a woman near the Santa Barbara Amtrak Station on the 200 block of State Street in April 2011.

The case went cold, but then Yescas was arrested earlier this year for an unrelated crime, and his DNA matched.

He admits to having sex with the woman, but says it was consensual.

Yescas was booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on $100,000 bail.
