Santa Barbara Residents Receiving Bills for Fire Prevention Programs

Posted: Updated:

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara County residents are getting bills called State Responsibility Fire Prevention Benefit Fees, or SRA Benefit Fees. The state of California signed this fire bill in July of last year.

The funds from these fees are going to be used for new fire prevention programs. The fee is $150 per habitable structure, so its possible for a resident to receive more than one fee. That depends on how many habitable structures the state determines you have on your property.

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors has requested that CALFIRE provide a presentation at a board meeting next month.

"There is a fair amount of public concern about additional fees and wanting to be knowledgeable,", says Dennis Bozanich, Assistant to the Santa Barbara County Executive Officer. "The board wants to become more knowledgeable about these fees and how they are going to be assessed."

If you get a bill and you think there is a mistake in it, you can file an appeal with the state.
