MONTANA DE ORO STATE PARK, Calif. - Fire crews were able to prevent the spread of the Creek Fire burning in Montana De Oro State Park. Firefighters continue to battle what started out as a controlled burn. It spread to the north side of Coon Creek past the perimeter of the original burn.
The fire burned about 100 acres and burning on the side of Valencia Peak. Cal Fire says it is now 60-percent contained and they expect full containment tomorrow.
The prescribed burn started Monday when crews began the planned 430 acre burn in the State Park near Los Osos.
The steep rugged terrain and gusty winds made it difficult for crews. The smoke in the air triggered Air Quality Watches in both Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.
