SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - San Luis Obispo city officials have declined Amgen's offer to host the 2013 bike tour.
Last month, city officials said that the city was being considered as a starting point for the race.
Amgen tour officials told Central Coast News on Wednesday that they changed the route, and wanted to have San Luis Obispo at the finish line instead.
City leaders declined the tour, saying it is too expensive for the city at this time. Meantime, they hope to be able to participate in the race in the future.
The tour is seen in 216 countries and attracted 2 million spectators for 2012.
