Settlement Reached in Santa Maria Police Officer Covarrubias Sexual Assault Case

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The city of Santa Maria has reached a settlement agreement in the sexual assault lawsuit against former Santa Maria Police Officer Albert Covarrubias Jr. and a woman, identified as "Jane Doe." A former member of the Police Explorer's unit.

The settlement is for $185,000.00.  Jane Doe's attorney, Terry Goldberg, told Central Coast News that, "after a difficult fight for my client, I was able to obtain a fair settlement from the City of Santa Maria."

Covarrubias Jr. was shot and killed by fellow officers as he resisted arrest in January.  The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office investigated the shooting and said it was justified.
