Santa Barbara Elementary School Principal Under Investigation for Child Abuse

Posted: Updated:

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Nuh Kimbawa was removed from the Harding University Partnership School on Friday according to the Santa Barbara School District. Central Coast News first told you about this story earlier this week.

Officials originally said Kimbawa was just not fit to be the principal. No allegations had come at the time but now Santa Barbara Police say he's under investigation for child abuse. And the case is not stopping there.

Sgt. Riley Harwood from the Santa Barbara Police Department commented, "the investigation is being forwarded to our crimes against a person detail. And they are following up with the investigation."

Santa Barbara Police say they cannot comment on the details of the abuse, but they did tell Central Coast News that it was not sexual in nature. Police say the incident happened on November 14th, just two days before Kimbawa was removed as principal.

The people who reported the incident initially went to Child Welfare Services, or CWS.

"In this instance, CWS wanted them to make the report directly with the police department and we responded on the 16th," said Harwood.

Assistant Principal Vanesha Davis will take over duties as principal for the rest of the school year.
