Four Local Football Teams Set For CIF Semifinals

Posted: Updated:

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Two weeks after the start of the CIF playoffs, four Central Coast football teams, in four separate divisions, all remain alive in postseason action.

In the Western Division, top seeded Lompoc puts its state best 32 game winning streak on the line against one of the best teams in the entire state, Serra of Gardena.

The Cavaliers, always a traditional powerhouse, are currently ranked #13 in California, while Lompoc is ranked 37th.

In the Northern Division, a pair of Cinderellas will dance in Atascadero, with the Greyhounds hosting West Torrance.

The Hounds and the Warriors both made the playoffs with at-large invitations, but have each pulled off two straight upsets. For West Torrance, that includes a 45-20 win over St. Joseph in the first round.

In the Northeast Division, Mission Prep will be home with Salesian of Los Angeles. The Royals, who are the top seed in the division, will face the Santa Fe league champion Mustangs, who are the division's fourth seed.

Bishop Diego, the only team to beat Mission Prep this year, will also face a fourth seed. The undefeated and top seeded Cardinals are the only area team on the road tonight. The Tri-Valley League champs will be at North Torrance.

All games are scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 on Friday night. Central Coast News will have highlights and scores on the Friday Night Blitz at 11:00pm.
