SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Tuesday night at 6:19pm Santa Barbara Police Officers responded to injury traffic collision on Salinas Street and Lou Dillon Lane, which turned out to be an SUV and a three year old boy.
At this time Police say indications are the collision occurred when a 3 yr old boy with his family were walking on the East Sidewalk of 300 South Salinas Street. The family was in the process of crossing the street, the boy holding mom's hand. As they started crossing, the boy let go and started to run across the street. That's when he was struck by gray Honda Pilot traveling northbound on Salinas driven by Maria Obispo Villegas, 58 from Santa Barbara.
The boy was hit by the right front fender of vehicle. The boy suffered non-life threatening injury, most significant, avulsion to right ankle, that's when flesh is torn from body. He was taken to Cottage Hospital.
Alcohol does not seem to be a factor. The accident is under investigation.
