Missing At-Risk Teen, Father Asks for Public's Help in Finding Her

SANTA MARIA, Calif.- A father's worst nightmare comes true after he says his daughter may have been abducted.

"Call us, or tell a grown up you need help," said Jesse White, the father of missing teenager, Shyanne White.

Jessie White fights back tears as he reads a letter to his missing 16-year-old daughter, Shyanne White, who suffers from Autism.

"You never think this is going to happen to you and it happens to everyone else, but not you," said White.

The unthinkable happened, Shyanne went missing Tuesday night after she walked away from the Fred Finch Youth Center, a treatment center in Oakland for mentally disabled teens. The former Santa Maria High School Special Education student transferred to the Finch Center after having behavioral issues.

"She's got the mentality of like a second grader, she can't function out of the street, it's impossible," said White.

Staff at the center say they followed Shyanne to the Fruitvale BART Station where she was last seen with a group of six young men.

"We don't know if she boarded a train, we don't know if they took her, we don't know anything, we just know she's gone," said White.

That's when BART Police detained the staff and lost sight of her.

CEO and president of the Finch Center released this statement:

"Police reports were made immediately. We are working closely with Shyanne's family, law enforcement and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to ensure Shyanne's return." -Thomas N. Alexander, LCSW, President & CEO

White says if the staff reacted differently, he would know where his daughter is tonight.

"She's not calling they don't know where she's at, so what else can you think as a parent," says White.

At this time, Oakland Police are treating this as a missing persons case and are investigating. If you know any information to Shyanne White's whereabouts you're asked to call police.
