NIPOMO, Calif. --
Are your children safe in the hands of the average bus
driver?
Central Coast News
learned a Lucia Mar School District bus driver is behind bars for selling meth
in San Luis Obispo County.
When it came time for the arrest suspect April Nunez was already
driving the bus on her way to pick up children from school.
When deputies searched Nunez' personal car, they found meth, a scale
and packaging materials indicating she was selling.
Nunez
was also said to be carrying $1,200 in cash.
Luckily, deputies don't believe she was selling the
drugs to children.
Central Coast News reached out to her and her family at
a house on Orchard Road in Nipomo but were told to leave the property with no
comment on the arrest.
But neighbors of Nunez told Central Coast News, she was
known to be in trouble with the law and say if the allegations are true, it's a
major concern for all parents.
Lucia Mar School District says each bus driver is drug
screened upon the initial hiring of a bus driver and periodically drug tested
throughout their employment.
The district says Nunez passed each drug test she was
administered.
Another bus driver reached out to Central Coast News
saying he was very upset over the news Nunez' arrest but says he knew April
Nunez and that this incident doesn't reflect bus drivers as a whole.
The Lucia Mar School District says it is working with
the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Department throughout the investigation and Nunez
has been placed on administrative leave.
