Shooting Investigation on Rockrose Street near Buckhorn Drive
SALINAS, Calif- Salinas Police had two separate shootings in the city limits on Sunday night.
The first incident was in the 200 block of Towt Street near Myrtle Court, where police said a 23-year-old victim was shot. Police said the victim gave his neighbor a ride to Towt Street and didn't know he was considered a rival gang member. Police said the suspect 33-year-old Robert Yancy, pictured above, got out of the car on Towt Street and shot the driver in the leg. As Yancy started to run away, police said the driver stepped on the accelerator, hitting the shooter. The car then crashed into a home on Towt Street.
Both Yancy and the victim tried to run away from the scene, but both were found by police. Yancy is booked in the Monterey County jail on attempted murder, gun violations and violation of parole.
A second shooting was at the 900 block of Rockrose Street near Buckhorn Drive where a 33-year-old man was shot. Police said the man, with no gang affiliation, heard a knock at his door and when he answered a Hispanic male asked him of his gang affiliation. Police said the victim slammed the door shut, but was then shot five to seven times through his front door. He was taken to a Bay Area hospital.
The suspect is still on the loose. He's described as a dark-skinned Hispanic male, 16-17 years old, and 5'6" to 5'7" tall. Police said he wore a black San Francisco Giants beanie and a black pullover jacket. After the shooting, he was seen running to a waiting white or gold colored Cadillac Escalade with a lowered front end and chrome rims.
