MORRO BAY, Calif. - Morro Bay is doing what it can to welcome in businesses and tourists alike. It's part of the effort to revitalize the city's struggling economy.
Last year Morro Bay passed a measure to completely remove development impact fees for commercial projects to bring new businesses in. With a strong showing in tourism this year, the city wants to keep the momentum going.
Last week the city's Tourism Bureau Board announced Karin Moss as their first Director of Tourism. The city manager along with members of the Tourism Board were part of the year-long interview process. A tourism board member said over the phone that the city wants to boost tourism coming off of a strong year. According to the board member, Morro Bay received $2 million in bed tax revenue for the last fiscal year, which is a record for the city. The sales tax revenue was also 15% higher than last year...
Moss is coming to Morro Bay from North Carolina where she was executive director of a tourism-marketing agency representing six counties.
